About This Event
Join us in a new series to explore the Talmud as the bridge between the Hebrew Bible and Judaism as we know it today. Hanukkah is a favorite holiday of modern Jews, but appears only briefly in the Talmud, as part of a larger discussion of candle lighting. The rabbis argued: Do we add one candle each day, or remove one? Where in our homes should we place the candles? Are these instructions a reflection of God’s will? Thousands of years later, their answers to these questions still determine the way we celebrate the holiday, and understand its history.
